[[Pez]] is an [[Ferengi]] Merchant who owns several merchant ships, a [[Latinum]]  mine and several lending houses. He is the step-father of [[Starfleet]] officer [[Thomas Jackson]] serving aboard the [[USS Rosenante]].

In 2413, Pez visited [[Starbase 989]], which is located on the edge of the [[Beta Quadrant]] between the [[Romulan Star Empire]] and the [[United Federation of Planets]].

His trip was spurred by the reports that three of his freighters were quarantined as a result of a vole infestation. Captain Joseph Taylor refused to release the ships, which began to cost Pez a great deal of money.

Later after [[Rank|Captain]] [[Joseph Taylor]] was found murdered in his quarters, Pez became a suspect. It was believed that Pez was in a position to exact revenge for the large loss of capital as a result if the quarantine.
