[[Somek]] was a [[Romulan]] Intelligence officer, the second in command of the [[Romulan Tal Shiar]]. His grandson [[T'Sek]] was the captain of the [[Harveq]]. Somek was serving under [[Chairman]] [[Vaebn]] as [[Chariman|Vice Chairman]] in 2413.

In 2413, T'Sek's ship the [[Harveq]] a heavily modified [[Romulan]] freighter was sequestered at [[Starbase 989]] by [[Rank|Captain]] [[Joseph Taylor]], who intended to force the captain to take him to [[Risa]] after he betrayed some disreputable business associates.

Somek was well known among the staff of [[Starbase 989]] and it seems that he was feared by at least some of them.[[Rank|Lieutenant]] [[Ben Soma]] along with several other officers from the [[USS Rosenante]], a [[Rosenante Class]] [[Starship]] docked at the station investigating the murder of Captain [[Joseph Taylor]], intervened and demanded access to the Harveq to study the body, despite the warnings of T'Sek's connections with the [[Romulan Star Empire]].
