A [[Data Cube]] is a high capacity storage device that is designed to function as a mobile data drive. The cubes are made of layered isolinear materials, which are optically activated. 

In 2413, [[Rank|Captain]] [[Joseph Taylor]], Commanding Officer of [[Starbase 989]], stole a data cube from [[Quol nor]], a [[Ferengi]] data pirate and smuggler. As a result he was murdered, which brought the crew of the [[USS Rosenante]] into the investigation.

He disguised the data cube as a [[latinum] sheathed motion statue which he hid in his quarters. It's recovery was instrumental in linking Quol nor to his murder.
