K'ran was born from what her grandfather and the majority of her family feels is shameful. K'ran's mother got drunk and ended up in bed with a male Betazoid. When the pair had awoke the next day her mother was horrified at what she'd done. When her mother figured out that she was pregnant from the Betazoid, her mother went to her brother to explain what had happen. He was shocked at her admission of being pregnant from a Betazoid male but supported her when she went before her father to admit what she'd done. K'ran's grandfather had been shocked and greatly disappointed that his daughter had mated with a male other than Klingon. Once K'ran had been born looking fully Klingon, the patriarch of the family accepted K'ran but never really showed he had any love for her. K'ran grew up with her uncle to train her and desperate to prove to her grandfather that she was worthy to be a Klingon warrior. Nothing she did could please her grandfather though she's earned the love and respect of the uncle who had trained her. At the time for the rite of passage, K'ran's grandfather refused to go to the ceremony stating that K'ran could never be a 'true' Klingon warrior being of mixed blood. Hurt by this, K'ran left the Klingon home world and wandered around for a couple of years before joining StarFleet. In the StarFleet academy K'ran excelled in any class that dealt with combat and engineering classes. Her aggressive tendencies have gotten her into trouble on a number of occasions, mainly from tossing around fellow cadets.
