A Data Cube is a high capacity storage device that is designed to function as a mobile data drive. The cubes are made of layered isolinear materials, which are optically activated.
In 2413, Captain Joseph Taylor, Commanding Officer of Starbase 989, stole a data cube from Quol Nor, a Ferengi data pirate and smuggler. As a result he was murdered, which brought the crew of the USS Rosenante into the investigation.
He disguised the data cube as a latinum sheathed motion statue which he hid in his quarters. It's recovery was instrumental in linking Quol nor to his murder.
