The Axanar are an androgynous humanoid species with an average life span of 400 years, native to the planet Axanar. (ENT: "Fight or Flight")
Physiology
The Axanar have green blood. Their body produces triglobulin from its zymuth gland. This substance has medical and aphrodisiac properties, and is used by a number of different species for those purposes. Some even forcefully "harvest" Axanar for their triglobulin.
The Axanar apparently prefer a nitrogen-methane atmosphere. (ENT: "Fight or Flight")
Axanar language
The Axanar language is spoken by the Axanar species. Like the languages of many humanoid species, the language contains consonant and vowel sounds like those found in Human languages. Enterprise NX communications officer Hoshi Sato had to learn the language quite quickly in order to clear up a misunderstanding with an Axanar captain, in order to prevent him or an alien vessel from destroying the Enterprise. (ENT: "Fight or Flight")
History
In 2151, Humans made First Contact with the Axanar via Enterprise, when an unnamed species had attacked one of their freighters. Enterprise sent an away team over to investigate, and found the mutilated corpses of the crew. When the Axanar returned, responding to a distress signal set by the Enterprise crew, a translator malfunction led them to believe that the Enterprise itself was responsible. Fortunately, Hoshi Sato, having translated the Axanar language, was able to convey to the Axanar that the true attackers were the ones attacking Enterprise, to which the Axanar offered assistance. (ENT: "Fight or Flight")
Sometime prior to 2152, an Axanar starship stopped by the automated repair station. One of the Axanar crewmen was secretly added to the station's humanoid hosts whose brains had been tied to the computer of the station. (ENT: "Dead Stop")
By the mid-23rd century, a conflict had broken out at the site of the Axanar's homeworld, involving the United Federation of Planets, Starfleet and Captain Garth of Izar. Izar was victorious in what became known as the Battle of Axanar and his exploits in the action would become required reading at Starfleet Academy. James T. Kirk would participate in the subsequent peace mission at Axanar, for which he was awarded the Palm Leaf of Axanar Peace Mission. (TOS: "Court Martial", "Whom Gods Destroy")
Axanar Peace Mission
The Axanar Peace Mission was a Starfleet operation to the planet Axanar in the mid-23rd century, designed to bring peace between Axanar and the United Federation of Planets. Prior to this, Axanar had been in conflict with the Federation, with Garth of Izar winning at least one major victory against the Axanar.
Future Enterprise Captain James T. Kirk participated in the Axanar Peace Mission as a "new-fledged cadet". For his work during the mission, he was awarded the Palm Leaf of Axanar Peace Mission.
In 2268, a mentally-unstable Fleet Captain Garth was appalled at the thought that his victory led to a peace mission, claiming such missions to be the work of "politicians and weaklings".
