Two years later the Dominion War started and she was sent to Earth to live with her adopted grandparents, James and Barbara North. Her father Died in the Second Battle of Chin'toka, evacuating his crew. Emily was devastated, and quickly decided that she would become a Starfleet Officer like her father and get back at the Dominion. She was attached to the diplomatic corp after becoming a lieutenant in Starfleet security. She was on Dacoral when civil war broke out and rescued James Guildford from a rebel ambush. They immediately became close friends, and eventually lovers. James asked Emily to marry him three times before she said yes. When James was captured by the Dacoralian Rebels, Emily took a Starfleet volunteer force out to rescue him. She was later captured by the rebels during a retalitory strike.
Even though Ambassador Richards was able to negotiate the release of the hostages, Emily refused to leave his side. Eventually her part in the rescue of her husband was discovered and Emily was tortured, beaten, burned alive, hacked into pieces and delivered back to her husband as a warning to any other Starfleet officers who were thinking of entering the war.
