Disease
The Denebian Phage is a disease that afflicts humanoids, killing thousands annually. The disease is highly adaptive to medical treatment. It disrupts their genetic code, then devours their body tissues and destroys cellular structures. One of the early symptoms of the disease is excruciating joint pain. Some victims had been known to die simply from the agony itself.
The disease targets the critical internal organs of the patients, and is fundamentally necrotic in nature. Because of the critical areas that the disease affects, the onset is rapid and death occurs very soon after infection.
One short-term solution makes extensive use of organ transplantation.
This usually gives rise to organ piracy, using transporter technology to steal healthy organs from the bodies of their owners.
Infection Rate
45 percent of the population has been infected with the Denebian Phage.
Treatment is ongoing and it is estimated there had been over new 50,800 cases with nearly 30,300 deaths in the last year although a vaccine is being researched it may take years before it is ready for use.
