| Tall, with a swimmer's build. Other than this he is fairly non-descript when in uniform. In Civies, a simple black Celtic knotwork tattoo is visible on the outside of his right bicept. On the left side of his face at his jawline, he has a thin scar. He keeps his hair short, and his face clean shaven.

| Born in Cork, Ireland to Cait and Sean Hughes. He has two sisters, Mary and Elizabeth, both younger than him. His mother is a Doctor in Cork, and his father is a Computer Systems Engineer for a company that has contracts with Starfleet. Michael had a fairly happy childhood, even if it was fairly boring in his opinion. Michael is very close to his family, and joining Star Fleet was hard for him, knowing he would be gone for long stretches of time. He is very protective of his two sisters.

| Michael lived on Earth his whole life prior to joining Star Fleet, only ever leaving for vacations. He held a couple of small jobs as a teenager, and then went to college, persuing degrees in the fields of computers and engineering

| Medically fit in all aspects. Has a thin scar on the left side of his face at the jaw line, that he won't let doctors remove. The scar was caused in a fight he got into while at University, in a bar while drunk. He keeps it as a reminder of what happens when he looses control. He hasn't had a drop to drink since that night.

| Michael excels at computers, and is an adept programmer, as well as being a fairly decent engineer. In the Academy he took what classes he could in engineering to help improve his skills as an Ops officer. He is fairly good at tactical and defensive programing, as well as adapting existing programs to better suit his needs or the needs of the ship.

| Swims frequently when off duty to maintain his build. He also enjoys computer, designing new and at least semi-useful programs for various functions.

| Michael is a skilled officer. Due to past experiences he is very much a calm person, choosing to explore all options prior to resorting to physical aggression. He is quite protective of those people he cares about and the cases where he feels his family or friends are in danger are the ones where he is more likely to act aggressively.
