Montana is a region on the North American continent on Earth.
During the Third World War, Montana was the locations of several nuclear missile silos armed with Titan V Missiles. This area was controlled by the regional power the united states of America.
On April 5th, 2063, Zefram Cochrane launched the Phoenix, mankind's first Warp capable space ship, from a missile complex near the city of Bozeman in central Montana, which led to Humanity's first contact with an extraterrestrial species, the Vulcans.
Later a statue would be erected of Dr. Cochrane near this spot, of him pointing to the sky, looking to the future.
