The rebels, in a bid to neutralize the by now famous Dragon Lord, released the information that they were holding more than a dozen members of the Dragon Knight's Fourth Unit captive. James immediately mounted a rescue attempt with the remainder of the Fourth Unit. It turned out to be a trap, and the rest of the Fourth Unit was captured. A quick thinking private switched combat armour with James to protect him, and was killed immediately, saving his life. James survived only because the rebels, confident that he was safely dead, didn't bother removing his helmet, throwing him in a holding cell wearing his armor. Three of his closest friends were tortured and killed as James watched, scarring him for life. When his wife learned of his fate, She immediately took volunteers and mounted a federation rescue attempt. Starfleet phasers completely overpowered the garrison stationed at the prison camp, and James and four survivors were rescued. The rebellion called for a temporary truce, thinking that the federation had entered the war. After ascertaining that the federation had not in fact joined with their enemies, the rebels launched an immediate surprise attack on the Federation Embassy in retaliation for the starfleet rescue operation. Twenty four federation citizens were overpowered and captured, including Ambassador Richards and Emily North. Family and Background
Under Construction. Please stay tuned for an impressively long and fleshed out backstory...
James was born in Ipswitch, England to a starfleet family. His mother was a senior chief petty officer who had been stationed on earth. He was born while she was on materntiy leave and visiting her mother in Ipswitch. His father was a Lt. before retiring. When James was 6 his family moved to San Fransisco where his mother began teaching at the academy. When he was twelve years old, he saved the son of the ambassador of Dacoral, giving him the heimlich maneuver. He was knighted by the Ambassador and became a Dacoralian Dragon Knight, a title he thought was ceremonial. His family moved to Norman, Oklahoma when he was 15 and his mother retired from Starfleet after a thirty year career. He went to the University of Oklahoma where he graduated at the top of his class with a Zoology degree. He has two sisters, twelve aquariums, four dogs, a cat, a rabbit, twenty guinea pigs, five goats and a lamb, though he only claims the rabbit and the aquariums.
Education
Attended the University of Oklahoma on Earth. He graduated at the top of his class even though he was off planet. Achieved a Doctorate in Icthyology upon his return to Earth. Is most famous in scientific circles for his breakthrough work in comparitive anatomy between aquatic life forms from different planets.
He was a member of red squad at starfleet academy due to his impressive grasp of scientific concepts and even more impressive personal combat and tactical abilities.
Pre-Starfleet History
Under Construction...
During James's junior year at the University of Oklahoma he was visited by the Dacoralian Ambassador to the Federation, Ambassador Fal'cor. There was a wave of predjudice against the 'arrogance and high-handedness of the people from the alpha quadrant' broiling across the Dacoralian Star Empire, a state of affairs that was worrying to the Dacoralian Emperor, who was seeking alliances in the Alpha Quadrant. The Emperor was requesting James, the only person not residing in the Empire to be named a Dragon Knight, come to the planet Dacoral in the Gamma Quadrant to aid the local government in calming the wave of hate for the 'alphas'. James was reluctant, but after learning that a civil war was iminent he agreed. He made arrangements to continue his studies with the University while off world and went with the Dacoralian Ambassador to Dacoral. They didn't arrive in time, and a civil war broke out.

James was met at the transporter pad in army headquarters by the Federation's ambassador to Dacoral, William 'Bill' Richards and his security team. Before official introductions could be made, the army headquarters were attacked by a rebel strike team. James was surprised to see that instead of Energy weapons, the Dacoralians combatted each other with swords and projectile weapons (bows, crossbows, and some guns). He almost lost his life, but the Ambassador's security team saved his life. It was at this time he met the Betazoid Emily North, an officer in Ambassador Richard's security team. They immediately became close friends, spending many off-duty hours together. James eventually realised that he was in love with Emily and asked her to marry him. She turned him down twice, but said yes the third time, telling James she said yes 'just to get you out of my hair'. By this time James was a Captain in the Dragon Knights and a battle proven warrior.
At the Battle of Gu' yan Ji, James killed one hundred and eleven rebels, earning him a promotion to Lt. Colonel and first officer of the entire Dragon Knight corp. He was sent to the rear for a rare event, the creation of a new Dragon Sabre, a weapon that James was surprised to learn was being created for him. James gradually learned the art and finesse of tactics from General Ma'rel and his wife, and became a great strategist, orchestrating several victories for the Dragon Knight corp. He became famous for his benevolence in the line of battle, prefering to take prisoners rather than lives, and public opinion began to turn against the rebels 'anti-alpha, take no prisoners' policies. The rebels recognised that attacking any of the 'Alpha's' embassies would provoke them into joining the war, and so avoided any provocative actions towards them. The war had raged for about a year and a half at this point, and the rebel navy had finally gotten under way. James was transferred into the Empire's Marine forces when it became clear that the rebels were going to attack the Capitol planet, Dacoral itself. James fought several boarding actions and led the capture of four ships that had dominion technology aboard. This alerted the government that the rebels were being backed by the Dominion. The government immediately asked for assistance from Starfleet and the Klingon Empire in stemming the Dominion threat, and after much debate, the Federation allowed Starfleet to send a forty ship fleet through the wormhole to patrol the border. The Klingons proved even more valuable, sending more than a hundred ships to patrol the border, cloaked. Between the three powers, the Dominion support for the rebels was cut off.

At the Battle of Chee' rel James's strategy of digging a tunnel under the enemy forces and tearing the rebel army in half was foiled when one of the local Lord Governor's betrayed him and told the rebels what was being planned. The rebels managed to confuse the Dragon Knight's sensors, and the Knights dug a hole under an ammo dump instead. Realising there mistake and the danger they were now in, the Dragon Knight fourth unit, with James in command, began retreating back down the tunnel, but the rebels blew up the ammo dump, killing most of the fourth unit. The Dragon Knights, enraged, flew down the tunnel and led a savage charge from the front, an attack so savage that the rebel lines broke and the enemy was forced to retreat. Following this expensive victory, James returned to the Capitol and was instrumental in having Lord Governor Brent' lie deposed and executed. James was then given his title and properties and became a Dragon Lord.
After three weeks of negotiations, Ambassador Richards managed to negotiate the release of twenty of the federation prisoners, who were immediately placed in a secure location. Emily and two security guards refused to leave Ambassador Richard's side and stayed to protect him as well as they could. Eventually the rebels managed to piece together exactly what happened and realised that they were holding the head of the Starfleet security team captive. They decided to try to draw James out, using his wife. They proceded to record her being tortured, beaten, burned alive, and hacked to pieces. They gave the remaining federation hostages the remains of the body and the recordings and sent them back to the Dragon Lord's forces. James felt her death, and went mad with grief.
For two weeks James Guildford was less man and more animal. He went through an intense stage of grief, of which he has never spoken to any one, even the counselors who put him back together after the war. After his two weeks of mourning, James managed to channel his grief into a rage. He judged that there were eighty-three people directly and indirectly responsible for his wife's murder and mutilation. He vowed that all eighty-three would die. James resigned from the army, put the eighty-three names on the war criminals list, and took out bounties on all of them. He spent the next eleven months tracking down and killing fourty-seven of the people on the list, and paying bounties on the other thirty-six. By the time James was done eliminating the fourty-seven he saw to personally, he had killed three hundred and fourteen people to get to them. The final twelve deaths were the most dramatic, as James led a small band of mercenaries into the capitol city of the rebellion, stormed into the rebel council chambers, where weapons were not allowed. He recorded a message to all of Dacoral saying that with the death of the rebel council, Emily was avenged and if they would have him, he would return. He then tied up the council and planted a large bomb. The bomb leveled half of the city, including all of the rebel army command that was at headquarters, launching the rebellion into chaos.
James was hailed as a hero, reinstated as Dragon Lord, and given command of a large part of the army. The Dragon Knight's aided by the rebel command's confusion, managed to push the rebel army back and pin it against a mountain. The rebels were not about to give up, making a three month long battle of it, it was the largest, longest battle of the war, more than three hundred million lives were lost at the battle before the end. The stalemate was ended when James led a unit of seskal calvary on a daring raid into the rear of the rebel army, causing more confusion and allowing the Dragon Knights to finally get through the rebel defenses and sweep the rebel army away. With the defeat of the rebel movement on the capitol planet, the rebellion died a swift death throughout the rest of the Dacoralian Empire.
He was instrumental in convincing the planetary government to apply for federation membership, but immediately left the planet and came back to Earth and finishing his Doctorate in Zoology emphasizing in Icthyology. Upon his return to Earth, James began studying every form of personal combat he could, and became a crack shot with all sorts of weapons. His time on Dacoral changed him into a hardened combat veteran. When the starfleet civil war erupted, he answered the call immediately. He went to Starfleet Academy, where he was a tactical major with a secondary emphasis in the science department, also graduating top of his class. James got into contact with several of LoDona's sympathizers on Earth and managed to smuggle himself and fourteen classmates to Starbase Geneva loaded with classified information and experimental technologies schematics given to him by an instructor secretly loyal to LoDona.
Starfleet History
James joined the crew of the U.S.S. Spectre . His first day on board the Spectre James saved the ship by detecting a sabatoged diode on a quantum torpedo. He recognized the diode had been tampered with and was rigged to explode upon discovery, and managed to throw it into a corridor outside of the torpedo storage bay. He blew himself up in the process, but his wounds were minor.
