Family and Background
Carson was brought up in northern England, born in the year 2412, leaving home at the age of 17 in the year 2430. He was an only child, until the age of 12 when his younger brother was born. He moved across the planet at the age of 17 looking for a purpose, he had watched his father die a year earlier in a horrific storm which ravaged their family farm. His mother took his brother and moved in with her sister as the farm was destroyed.
Education
- Starfleet Academy (4 years)
Overview
He found work with a security firm, which was contracted to help secure freight vessels travelling throughout the solar system. Not having any experience in this type of work, it was rough to begin with, no one seemed interested in training him, in how to secure the vessels if plundered. He continued in the job for 2 years, every job, he wondered whether anything would happen, but nothing ever did. He briefly considered applying to the Starfleet Academy, but dismissed it as a lot of the colleagues he had at the security contractor were ex-Starfleet who consistently bemoaned the direction the agency had taken in the year’s past. Carson begins an apprenticeship with “Flying Arms Corp,” and during the next 4/5 years completes the apprenticeship and begins to climb the ladder of leadership. The company deals with moving people, products- generally anything- around the planet. He draws upon his experience with the security contractors and learns more about route planning, securing ships as well as flight experience in small spaceships. Over the years, everywhere he turns (it seems to him) there are adverts, signs, recruiting stations etc for Starfleet. At the age of 25 he makes the decision to join the academy, with the idea that he could gain valuable new skills and life experience. This decision is made after hearing about his grandfather’s death, on returning home for the funeral and helping his mother clean out his house. During that process he found his grandfather’s (Jason Peters) old Starfleet uniform, medals and personal photos of his time in the service.
Starfleet
During his time at the academy, he veered towards a more security and tactical proficiency. Excelling in marksmanship, negotiation, tactical puzzles and ship operations. He graduates and is assigned to the Starfleet Operations Centre on Earth under Lieutenant Trask, due to Starfleet (and the Federations) lack of direction, not a great deal was happening and he spent a large portion of his on-duty time honing his skills, making connections and helping investigate some of the smaller crimes and mysteries within the centre. Carson is on annual leave, visiting his family when the Earth is attacked. Hearing about it on the news, he immediately returns to work and finds that Lt Trask, as well as millions of other Starfleet officers and civilians had either been murdered or were still classified as “missing.” He spent the next year investigating the deaths of his colleagues, stepping up and trying to take charge wherever he could, in a very fractured and frustrated Starfleet. He spent some time in counselling, having to try and deal with the survivor’s guilt, being the only one of his post to survive the attack. He spent a large amount of his time arguing with superior officers, sometimes putting his point across, but most of the time being disappointed by the lack of progress the admiralty seemed to be taking. Either to get rid of his incessant questioning or as a reward for his consistent work, he has been requested to report for work on the Mars Base under Admiral Ktell.
Medical
Survivor guilt (or survivor's guilt; also called survivor syndrome or survivor's syndrome and survivor disorder or survivor's disorder) is a mental condition that occurs when a person believes they have done something wrong by surviving a traumatic event when others did not, often feeling self-guilt. Often prone to overdoing, or throwing himself into immediate danger as a response to feeling like he should have perished with his colleagues during the attack.
