Adrene controlled the Tkon nanosphere

Adrene is the name given to a computer system built by the Tkon scientist D'askto. The acronym stands for ADvanced REasoning NEtwork. It was housed inside the Tkon Nanosphere and was built from a copy of D'askto's Neural imprints.

The device and Adrene were built on the planet Dovek II which at the time was the last remaining civilized world remaining from the once powerful Tkon Empire.

The Empire was being systematically destroyed as a wave of superpowerful Gamma Radiation created during a massive Supernova spread across their empire. Already during the age of Makto, roughly 65,000 years prior to 2414, the radiation was building to dangerous levels.

Adrene's purpose was to travel backwards in time, to a point predating the arrival of the Supernova's radiation and seeding the planet's atmosphere with specialized Nanites designed to absorb and digest the radioactive particles as they entered the atmosphere.

Because of the complexities of the maneuver, D'askto created Adrene to control the Sphere's systems and to think as if she were a living being. He used his own neural imprints to develop her intellectual skills.

However, before the Sphere could be launched the planet was attacked by the Borg who had used their own version of temporal manipulation to travel back to the past. A group of Borg managed to assimilate some of the grosser functions of the sphere and launch it, with the intention of seeding Earth's atmosphere with Borg Nanoprobes, thereby assimilating all of Humanity.

In the End, crew from the USS Boudicca and the USS Rosenante destroyed the sphere, only after Sanok convinced Adrene to lower her shields to help the Federation save Earth.

As the Borg had used the sphere to travel through time to the Cretaceous Period, it was there that the sphere was destroyed. Large fragments of the sphere crashed into the Earth causing the K-T Extinction. The largest fragment slammed into the earth at a place that would be later known as the Chicxulub Crater.
