Zaye Belden was a Starfleet Officer and the first Trill to join Starfleet after his homeworld became a member of the United Federation of Planets. He died holding the rank of Fleet Admiral in 2406, and supported LoDona's cause against the corruption tainting Starfleet during the early 25th century. This may explain why the next host, Olesia, defected after being assigned to fight on Doenitz's side in the Federation Civil War. He was the ninth host of the Belden Symbiont, and was the first to reveal that the so-called "Belden Family" that had dominated Trill society for many centuries was in fact a series of hosts.
