A banner for the Gratitude Festival

The Gratitude Festival is an annual Bajoran celebration of great importance to the Bajoran people. Also known as the Peldor Festival, it dates back as far back as 17600 BC.

Traditions[edit]

The traditional greeting during the festival is "Peldor joi". Bateret leaves are traditionally burned, and participants write their problems on renewal scrolls which are then burned so that their troubles symbolically turn to ashes.

Celebration[edit]

  • In 2369, Benjamin Sisko had hoped to make a three-day trip to Bajor with his son Jake Sisko to attend the Gratitude Festival and visit the fire caves. (DS9: "The Nagus")
  • In 2371, Deep Space 9 hosted its third annual celebration of the Gratitude Festival. (DS9: "Fascination")
  • In 2374, at the request of the Emissary of the Prophets, the festival was held on Deep Space 9. (DS9: "Tears of the Prophets")
