- "As the right of each sentient being to live in accordance with its normal cultural evolution is considered sacred, no Starfleet personnel may interfere with the normal and healthy development of alien life and culture. Such interference includes introducing superior knowledge, strength, or technology to a world whose society is incapable of handling such advantages wisely. Starfleet personnel may not violate this Prime Directive, even to save their lives and/or their ships, unless they are acting to right an earlier violation or an accidental contamination of said culture. This directive takes precedence over any and all other considerations, and carries with it the highest moral obligation. "

Fleet Update
After concluding their shore leave, the crew of the USS Hades were once again dispatched to active duty. The ship, assigned to conduct a series of surveys for navigational and scientific studies, quickly fell into the routine hum-drum of the monotony that always accompanied such missions.
The monotony was broken, however with the reassignment of the Hades to the planet Lertain IV, where a cultural scientific study was underway. The survey team, lost one of their scientists and out of necessity and fear of breaking the Prime Directive, requested assistance. Starfleet Command, then assigned the USS hades, the closest ship to the task.
The Lertainians were in a state of technological development similar to that of Medieval Earth circa 1300 AD, complete with a rampant pandemic that was beginning to affect the population. The Hades raced to the site of the incident and began making preparations to deploy away teams in the hopes of locating the missing scientist before any cultural contamination took place.
