The Albatross Organisation was set up after the devastating ion storms in the Mariner system in the early part of 2383. Most of the system was decimated. The volcanic planet of Mariner 5 shattered from the Ion storm’s impact and is now part of a large asteroid belt. The mining planet Mariner 4’s atmosphere was stripped away instantly killing most of its inhabitants apart from the few that were in the deepest mines. The main planet Mariner 3 an ocean world had a large portion of its ocean flash boiled away. Where once Mariner 3 surface was covered by 99% water was reduced to 60% in a matter hours. Mariner 1 and 2 were luckier then the others there orbits had placed the systems sun in between them and the Ion storm. This was lucky as Mariner 1 and 2 were where the systems two small ship yards which came out of the incident relatively unscathed.
The Mariner system called for aid and help from the Federation Council. Unfortunate the Federation was already in process of repelling the Dominion from the Delta Quadrant and were not able sent many starships to help in the relief effort..So the Mariner system began to draw resources from its own system and sent its ships to the devastated planets to help. All this materials and ships were placed under authority of the Emergency Disaster Relief Committee. This committee later changed into the Albatross Organisation which specialised in deep space search and rescue. The Albatross Organisation took its name from the rime of the ancient mariner in where the Albatross came to save stranded sailors and showed then the way home.
Since the time of the Albatross Organisation’s funding the Organisation has spread across the alpha and beta quadrants. Increasing their fleet of specially adapted starships acquired from many different races but mainly Federation.
