The Wyvern was placed in Drydock to allow the replacement of the vessel's destroyed Tactical Shield Generators. During this time Martin was turned over to 52nd Fleet intelligence operatives for debriefing and interrogation.

As a result of his interaction with Lieutenant Janeway and prior prisoner Sam [[Sam Moto| Moto]], Martin realized that he was fighting on the wrong side of the war. He cooperated fully with the authorities and was tried for his role in Captain Wolfe's death.

Martin was exhonerated when evidence became available indicating that it was Captain Smithwick who attacked the Champlain despite Martin's warnings. The captain was found mentally unable to stand trial and was remitted to a mental hospital for therapy.

Janeway's testimony to the review board was instrumental in assuring that Martin was not stripped of his rank. In fact, he was promoted to captain of the USS Wyvern, now in the service of the 52nd Fleet and assigned a new crew.

Martin oversaw some refits of the ship at Starbase Geneva before being ordered to join the USS Champlain in preparation of a Final assault against the Mars Defense Perimeter.
