Barkon IV is a planet located in the Barkon system, home to the pre-industrial society of the humanoid Barkonians. The planet is located in or near Federation space. It has at least one moon, which has a startling resemblance to Luna. It is also home to the Vellorian Mountains. In 2370, a Federation probe crashed on the planet. The probe's power source was radioactive and when the casing of the probe cracked on impact the radiation caused some Barkonians to suffer the effects of radiation poisoning. Lieutenant Commander Data was dispatched to retrieve and salvage the probe's components but suffered memory loss when he attempted to download the sensor logs from the probe's on-board computer and was exposed to a power surge. He lived on the planet for several weeks before being attacked by a mob and severely damaged. (TNG: "Thine Own Self")
