==Pre-Starfleet History==
Michael Ian O'Connor was born to Cait and Sean O'Connor, and is their first child.  He was born in County Cork, Ireland on Earth.  His mother was a medical doctor in Cork, and his father was a computer systems engineer for a company with Starfleet contracts.  Michael had a happy and normal childhood, if a little boring in his opinion.  He is very close to his family, especially his sisters, of whom he is very protective.

===Educational Background===
Michael attended University College Dublin, receiving degrees in Computer Science and Sub-Space Engineering.  Excelling in the analytical fields, he fell in love with his studies.  His college career was fairly standard.  The only incident of note was a run in he had in a bar his Junior year.  After a night of drinking at a local pub in Dublin, Michael was somewhat drunk and was provoked into a fight, he would have avoided if sober, since that night he has never had another alcoholic drink.

Michael is a skilled computer programer, and excels at tactical and defensive programming.  He is also a competent engineer, having taken a decent number of courses in the Academy in order to improve his skills as an Ops officer.

===Medical Record===
Michael is physically fit, using his off hours to swim and maintain his build.  He has a single celtic knotwork tattoo on his right upper arm.  He also has a scar that runs along the left side of his jaw from the fight in the bar during college, which he refuses to let medical personnel remove.  Since the incident in the bar, Michael has become a very calm person, preferring to use diplomatic means before agression in almost all cases.  While he will fight to defend what he believes is right, and won't stupidly risk his life or the lives of others trying to talk in situations where it  would be crazy, he will do his best to find non violent solutions to most situations.
