Quite petite and slim, Molly's wavy red hair, which she wears shoulder-length, is most often caught back with a narrow black headband to keep it out of her face. Her face is liberally dusted with freckles. Her emerald-green eyes are ringed with long dark lashes and her eyebrows are darker than you would expect given her red hair. Her nose is slightly tilted at the end and her generous mouth is turned up at the corners, giving the impression that she is slightly amused at the world around her. None of her features are perfect but the overall impression is pleasant. She speaks with a slight Irish lilt.

The eldest of five children, Molly grew up to be a feisty and independent young woman. She has three sisters and one brother, her brother Padraig being the next in age to Molly. With only one year between them, Molly is very close to Padraig, much closer than to her sisters Sinead (24), Sorcha (20) and Siobhan (16). Her father Sean is a civilian doctor, and her mother Maureen is a teacher. Molly was born in Dublin, where her father has a general practitioner practice and her mother teaches in high school.

Molly majored in Operations and Cryptology but took minors in tactical and helm operations. On graduating she was assigned to the USS Greymalkin, and after 18 months service was invited to apply for a post as Academy Instructor. She has been teaching at the Academy for 6 months.
