The Research and Development Department Archive Section other wise know as the Vault is a large underground repository of star ship designs. It was designed so that the R&D departments on Mars and Utopia Palencia could have a hands-on easy access to every star ship design stretching across the eons. The designs are mostly Federations star ships but there is a large collection of star ship designs from the major races and a few from lessor races across all four galactic quadrants. 
Most of the data is on the archive mainframe but there are some which are on hard copy and are kept in the vault. 

With the appointment of [[Aleese Akess]] the new Senior Archivist the repository has been expanded with her personal collection of star ship designs.
