The Gamma Sigma System is a system that played a critical strategic roll in the outcome of the Federation Civil War. The planet was seized early on by the forces of the dictator Rodrigo Doenitz because of it's strategic location as a forward staging point against the 52nd fleet as well as it's rich mineral wealth.
In 2407 the USS Paladin seized the planet from Doenitz Forces. The battle centered around the only inhabited planet in the system, Gamma Sigma III.
