Titan is the largest moon of Saturn, the sixth planet in the Sol System and is named after the Titans, sisters and brothers of Cronos, the Greek Saturn, according to Terran mythology. Titan's diameter is nearly half that of Earth; its atmosphere is largely composed of nitrogen and methane, with an atmospheric pressure of 1.6 bars and a mean surface temperature of approximately –178 °C.
Titan was the site of Human activity since at least the early 22nd century and as such, most likely fell under Federation protection and jurisdiction later on.
In the 2140s, while on Titan as part of the Omega training mission with Captain Jonathan Archer, Trip Tucker encountered problems while on an extra vehicular (EV) exercise. His EV pack froze up and he experienced nitrogen narcosis. However, Archer was able to convince Trip not to remove his helmet while still unsheltered on Titan's surface. (ENT: "Strange New World")
