Camus II was a formerly-inhabited planet, where all life had ceased to exist long before the 23rd century. At that time, visitors had to avoid exposure to celebium, which is deadly to humanoid life, by using celebium shielding.
Doctor Janice Lester was sent here with a team of archaeologists to investigate this planet. When Dr. Lester found a life-energy transfer machine she developed a plan to take over the body of James T. Kirk and assume command of the starship USS Enterprise. (TOS: "Turnabout Intruder")
In 2367, the USS Enterprise-D was due at this planet for an archaeological survey, but diverted to Turkana IV responding to a distress call from the Arcos. (TNG: "Legacy")
