Shuttlecraft Topaz (NX-0099827)

The shuttlecraft Topaz is the brainchild of Ensign James Hudson and his mentor Aberole. It is a newly designed, sub-transwarp shuttlecraft, designed for high warp speed delivery of a cargo, and personnel, in safety no matter the environment.

Recognisable by its "Wing-pods" that house the nacelles, and allow basic aerodynamics if in an atmosphere; and its small profile, the Topaz is an advanced piece of Shuttlecraft design and engineering.

It is powered by a revolutionary "micro-warp-core", the product of miniturisation of the older technologies, and follows the basic layout and design of standard Starfleet Shuttlecrafts, with some mentionable discrepancies:

Topaz Basic Variant

Instead of the typical grey bulkheads, the Topaz is constructed with a light dispersing black compound, lending the craft optical camoflauge at a distance, and its interior is set in cream, faint, fine red Starfleet insignia run along the wing-pods of the shuttle, but this is the only decoration. Identifying marks are located on the Wing-pods and the nose of the shuttle, but are in matt-black, and barely visible to the casual onlooker in space.

On the sensor side, the Topaz can modify its sensor shadow, mimicing space dust or a huge ship, depending on the need. It is untested at present, and may be problematic. The Shuttle has a dedicated Science terminal on board, located aft of the Conn station on the Port side.

The Conn station (port-forward) is a state of the art system, based on an improvement of the Starfleet Mako Conn system - giving the shuttle increased manuveurability for a ship its size.

A Combined Ops/Tactical station is starboard of the Conn station, and regulates Life Support, Shuttle Power systems, Shields, tractor beams, and offensive capability such as Phasers and Torpedoes.

The Topaz is outfitted with miniturised, underpowered phaser banks adapted from the Defiant Class vessels, with a forward fire arc only, and with 2 Photon Torpedo launchers (again, foreward fire arc only).

Topaz Combat Variant

The Combat variant outfitted shuttle replaces the photon micro-launchers for experimental Quantum torpedo launchers, and loses the Science station for a more comprehensive Tactical capability and resources for the Shield and Secondary systems.

Current

The prototype shuttle is currently on board the USS Dennison after being taken to the 52nd fleet by Lewis Nymes.
