Neuromuscular Nanowires
The Neuromuscular Nanowires are a specialized device designed by Matthew McLaren. It works in conjunction with a series of Neural Subspace Processor, and together allow him to walk.
The device was inspired by a few different concepts, among them was Borg nanoprobes, the AISORS, VISOR and other aspects of subspace communications.
In 2407, after McLaren was injured on an away mission, he found himself suffering from irreparable neural damage to his left arm and leg. This damage effectively caused him to become confined to a gravity chair for the better part of a year.
An excellent engineer, Matthew dedicated his efforts and considerable talents to developing a system that would by-pass his damaged nerves and send signals directly to his perfectly healthy muscles.
The processor and nanowires were the result. the devices when working in tandem allowed him to overcome his handicap. The processor picks up and interprets his brain wave activity and transmits a signal to the nanowires which stimulates the muscles directly.
