Interphasic Scanner

The interphasic scanner (also known as an IP scanner) is a device capable of revealing objects that are not perceptible by normal humanoid senses or standard scans. Using the IP scanner, the crew of the USS Enterprise-D discovered parasites existing slightly out of phase with normal space. The parasites fed on the cellular peptides of the crew.
