Alazara is a female deity of the planet Iradon. She is primarily worshipped by the female population of the world. Cereus is her high priestess. The goddess was seen as a gentle, all-caring mother figure who watched over women in the harsh male-dominated society of Iradon. She was associated with nature, music, healing, fertility and childbirth.
In 2407, when the planet Iradon crossed over into our universe, Cereus was advised of the crash landing of Lieutenant Colonel Eva Straton, who had encountered the planet at the time of it's appearance. Suffering from a chemical imbalance in her brain and amnesia brought on by an acute blow to the head suffered in the crash of her runabout, Eva was convinced by Cereus that she was the Anointed of Alazara and destined by prophesy to lead an army of Iradonians in revolt against their oppressors.
Among her devotees were the Priestess Bowen and Arania. It was discovered that her sect had been the guardians of ancient Iconian artifacts, that became critical to the rescue of the away team from the Boudicca, who had been sent to rescue Straton. In her first temple Matthew McLaren discovered such an artifact after deciphering a series of musical tones that opened the central alter to reveal the device. As a result he became a member of the religious mythologies and is known as the Builder of Automotons, while John Linskens became known as the mouthpiece of the Goddess when he was temporarily overcome by some external force that was never explained.
