Abstract
Here is a condensed history of the Prominent 'Bracken' Family, taken from assorted files, declassified where appropriate, and presented for information.
Largely beginning with the marriage of Kingsley Bracken to Leola duBois, the Bracken Family has a long history of devoted service in StarFleet.
Leola Bracken
Born on the 4th August 2363, Leola Barratt was a reckless, untamed teenager, given to revolt and ill-discipline. One afternoon, based on nothing more than a dare from one of her friends, she signed up to the StarFleet Marine Corps, there discovering a world, that she could truly be herself in, and once adjusted and flourishing in the rigid discipline rose very rapidly through the ranks. She met Kingsley Bracken whilst on board the USS Farragut, he was then a young Engineering Crewman and the pair soon started dating seriously. As both of their enlisted careers began to flourish, so did their love, and they were married soon after. After they were promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant Leola Bracken and Senior Chief Petty Officer Kingsley Bracken; they announced her pregnancy with their daughter Dale Bracken.
After a standard Maternity Leave, Leola Bracken returned to Active service, and gained promotion to Sergeant Major where she gained the attention of Fleet Intel. When Dale Bracken was only seven years old, Leola Bracken staged her death, and took up a position with Intel as part of a deep undercover BlackOps cell.
At the age of 47, Leola returned to her Marine unit as MXO 2L, and was to be posted to the USS Dennison, somewhat ironically under the Command of her Estranged daughter, now Second Officer on the Vessel. She eventually retired at the rank of Lt.Major.
Dale Bracken
Born on the 3rd of February 2385, her father, a Master Chief Petty Officer in Engineering and her mother a Marine Sergeant Major, Dale's early life was one of Starships, and military-like routine. The young Dale loved life aboard the Fleet ship that she called home, until tragedy struck one morning. Whilst en-route to Sickbay for an emergency appendectomy, a hull breach struck the ship, apparently killing her mother instantly. After a succesful recovery to the operation, which left a scar, her father Kingsley Bracken eventually resigned from the Fleet, finding no love for it without his wife. Instead, he took over the running of the family vineyard, in Tuscanny, Earth, following the death of a distant relative.
Dale, now growing, and becoming a teenager, at first hated, but eventually grew to love the surroundings, finding it inspirational to walk so closely to the birthplace of the renaissance, near 1000 years earlier. It was here that she discovered a love of science, especially Physics, and decided eventually, with her father's blessing, to enter the Academy, selecting to double major in Astrophysics and Stellar Chemistry.
Upon graduating Dale was posted to the USS Dennison as Assistant Chief Science Officer under Jewort Trewe working under him as part of the Higly Classified Project Darkstar. Over the following months Dale gained higher position and promotion, eventually becoming Second Officer and being awarded the Legion of Honour before injury at the hands of Fleet Intelligence forced her to take medical leave, where she completed a phD in Astrophysics, and started a family, giving birth to her daughter Aimee Bracken.
After returning to the Fleet to the USS Hades, she eventually became Commanding Officer with the rank of Captain.
After the USS Hades was put to decommission, Dale took a deskjob in StarFleet Aerospace Command; a section of the Fleet that she would ultimately become Director of at the same time as her daughter Aimee became Surgeon General. Dale was promoted to the Rank of Vice Admiral and appointed Director of Aerospace Command.
Aimee Bracken
Aimee Bracken's history is amongst the more complex. Born in 2411, Aimee spent a short time on board the Hades with her mother, who eventually took the difficult decision to send the young Aimee, then nearly 5, home to live with her gran, Leola. Tragedy struck in 2420 when, during a trip, a massive spacial anomaly propelled Aimee, then 9 back in time to 2396 and wiping her memory.
She was found by a small space-fairing band of pirates who looked after the child, naming her Carena Ptaquiloside, until the colony was raided by Fleet Special Forces.
Carena was then put into foster care. Being by nature a wild natured teenager, eventually Carena settled and discovered a love for medicine after her foster parents took her to a local museum. Discovering in herself a keen intelligence and an aptitude for science, she was accepted into the Denobulan School of Medicine, graduating in the top 1%. She then applied to Starfleet Academy, and upon graduation stayed with SFMHQ to do a years surgical residency.
Shortly after being posted to the USS Hades and meeting Dale Bracken, who at the time was First Officer, Carena began having flashbacks, waking dreams, and eventually a complete memory collapse. This last she only survived due to the presence of Eva Straton, then Captain of the Hades. During this moment, she came to recall all her lost memory, realising that First OfficerLt.Cmdr Dale Bracken was her mother despite only being 4 years younger.
The two women grew very close, and when Dale left the Hades to move to SpecOps, Aimee too chose to move on, though returned a couple of years later as Chief Medical Officer believing her mother to be deceased.
Like her mother before her she rose rapidly through the ranks, becoming Lt.Cmdr and Second Officer. Not long after, following the death of Chris Gibbs, and after a stint under Admiral Emmi Greene, Aimee was promoted to Captain and CO of the Hades. A position that she held until its decommissioning, whereupon she requested a transfer to SFMHQ after discovering she was pregnant with the child of her long-time love Mil Nicolae. The transfer accepted, she was assigned as Medical Captain, and took up the postion of Chief of Surgery, a position that she still holds. In 2420 she gave birth to a daughter naming her Ailynn.
After being stuck in the position of Captain for many years, events in the year that followed the Incident a purge of the incumbent Admiralty occured, most of whom had been an active part in the stagnation of the Federation, allowing it to fragment, and key members leave. In the reorganisation of the Fleet Admiralty, Aimee Bracken was appointed Surgeon General of Starfleet Medical and promoted to Vice Admiral.
Ailynn Bracken
Born in 2420, Ailynn is the daughter of Aimee Bracken and Mil Nicolae. Sadly Mil never found out that he was to be a father, dying from injuries sustained during a mission before Aimee could tell him the news. As a result of her mixed Human/Bajoran heritage, Ailynn was born with isolated dexrocardia, a condition very rare in humans, though slightly more common in Human Bajoran hybrids due to different heart structure and axis. There is a possibility that she has other, as yet undetected medical issues
Ailynn grew up struggling with her family's reputation, with two Captains on her mothers side, and her paternal grandmother, former Fleet First Officer Admiral Emmi Greene. Incorrectly feeling that she was pressured to 'follow in the footsteps' Ailynn took on more and more work in her late teens in a desperate attempt to prove herself worthy of the reputation that her family seemed to have in Starfleet, and in the Community as a whole. As a result of this she became used to using a derivative of amphetamine to keep herself awake, before slipping into regular use of harder recreational medicines.
Eventually getting clean with the help of her mother; Ailynn graduated both Medical School and the Academy, following her mother's path by becoming a surgeon, though specialising in Neurosurgery and general thoracic. She was then posted to the newly reopened base at Utopia Planetia Mars Defence Perimeter base.
Shortly after being posted to Mars, Ailynn was promoted to acting Assistant Chief Medical Officer.
Following the semi-successful mission to re-admit the Trill people to the Federation; Ailynn was promoted to Ensign sg and assigned as Chief Medical Officer.
After serving on Mars as Chief Medical Officer for approximately a year, she was approached by her childhood friend, James 'Trip' Williams; who offered her the position of First Officer on the newly completed USS Exeter on which he was to be Commanding Officer. She accepted and was promoted to Lieutenant sg.
Ashlyn Williams (nee Jones)
Ashlyn is the biological daughter of Dale Bracken and Ashalan Ronal. Ronal, a martyr in the eyes of the Bajoran people, was assassinated whilst making a speech countering a growing seperatist movement on the Bajor homeworld. The Cult of the Pah Wraiths claimed responsibility, swearing a death oath, to rid the galaxy of Ronal's treasonous lineage; a slaughter of Ronal's family ensued. Secretly married, and recently with child, Dale left Bajor , eventually giving up the newly born Ashlyn; entreating her care to a young mixed-heritage couple, of Human/Bajor mix. Keeping a passive eye on the child, Dale was saddened to see that Ashlyn's adoptive mother, a kind, and gentle woman, who Dale had genuinely like, had died; leaving Ashlyn in the direct care of her adoptive father, a man who became a slave to his sorrow, and fell to drink. Dale continued to watch from afar, in a constant moment of torture, to keep the young Ashlyn safe, although in a position of unhappiness. The alternative being death at the hands of the Cult of the Pah Wraith, the cult that killed Ashlynn's biological father. Ashlyn's teenage years were ones of loneliness, and solitude, finding comfort in the school and local libraries, where she sat, and devoured book after book. Upon graduation, and the death of her adoptive father, she left Earth, and lived with her grandmother, whilst attending college.
