Physical Description

Kyle is non-descript and, aside from his fire red hair, pretty forgettable. He is not imposing in size, nor does his stand out in a crowd. He is always seen clean-shaven, his clothes clean and pressed. His work space as well as his uniform is neat and spotless.

Family and Background

Father: Nathan Locke – Teacher, writer, historian. The wikipedia article for ‘stern’ has this man’s face. Since the death of his wife, Linda, he has been cold, reclusive, and a workaholic. He spends little time out of his home, a small affair crammed with books and reference material. He claims to be too busy for any family activities, and wants to be left alone. Likes cheesecake.

Mother: Linda Locke – Deceased. Linda was a mother first and second. She doted on her two boys, but the true thrill of her life was her daughter. Nothing was too good for little Amelia. A rare genetic disease, took her in the prime of her life at the age of 38. Once the disease was found the children were treated, and it is no longer a threat to them.

Older Brother: Harvey Locke – “Enforcer”. While not exactly a lawman, Harvey isn’t exactly a criminal. He has been employed by both. Tall, wide, and imposing, he is physically everything his younger brother is not. No slouch mentally, Harvey is the only person ever to beat Kyle in a game of chess. He doesn’t keep a steady job, and has spent a little too much time in the local drunk-tank. He is married, although his wife has left him, and has left no forwarding address.

Younger Sister: Amelia Locke – Pretty and spoiled, Amelia has not had to work a day in her life. She has always plenty of attention from the opposite sex to ensure she need not lift a finger. She is currently unaware of the location of any other members of her family, which political party is in power, or how to multiply without a calculator.

Pre-Starfleet History

Kyle grew up in a noisy, rambunctious home. It was filled with love, warmth, and intellectual stimulus. Dinner always accompanied debates over the issues of the day, usually politics. Kyle tried his hardest to imitate everything his brother did, especially in sports, but never measured up, and he thus found it cold in his brother’s shadow. Things changed with his sister (Amelia) arrived, and Kyle found he had much more freedom, the scrutiny of his parents gone, their attention now affixed permanently on their daughter. With his oldest brother out of the home, Kyle focused on developing his own talents thought out high-school and college. He won some acclaim with his fencing, getting him some scholarship money to university. One dark Thursday, his mother died. The event was swift, and affected the family tremendously, basically splintering everyone into their own spirals of depression. Kyle decided to take up the medical field, at first hoping to stop anything like this from happening again. While his bedside manner was good, and his research impeccable, he had no joy in trending toward being a doctor. After a long conversation with his mentor, Kyle took a new tact, and began working the ‘human’ side of the field. He graduated and began practicing psychology. He took a job with the local government office, and began working up psychological profiles. The work was not challenging for long, and again, Kyle looked for an interesting challenge. He decided on aliens. Surely each race had it’s own make-up, it’s own quirks to learn and use.

Loke was assigned to the USS Hades as a Counselor.

Kyle is allergic to any non-Earth food. He can survive eating it, but the results are not pleasant.

Hobbies

When he has time for it, Kyle likes swimming, running, fencing, and chess.

Skills and Abilities

Kyle has been trained to be a councilor. This runs from the regular day to day crew evaluation, and personal counseling, to the more extreme, such as hostage negotiation or working up a criminal psychological profile. Having some general medical training, he would be useful in a medical situation. Although not skilled enough to do surgery, he would make an excellent assistant.

Notes

Kyle is friendly, sometimes he plays the gullible/naive role, but make no mistake, he is taking note of every detail, and can remember things with unusual clarity. He sometimes get lost in his thoughts, and becomes unresponsive to anything less than a loud call, or physical touch. This bad habit is becoming more and more common. Kyle thinks too much of himself and his theories. He is slow to accept another point of view, and is horrible at taking council. He tends to be stubborn, and strong-willed. He has lousy aim, and gets ‘sea-sick’ easily. Kyle adapts to the needs of the moment. His work taught him how to do that, as every interview, case, or therapy session requires it’s own unique response. At parties he can be charming, at meetings he can be quiet. His natural tendency is to wait until last to speak, preferring to get the detail in for consideration. He also tends to be introverted, but knows to look for the signs of that, and counter them. When you first meet Kyle he will be friendly, and interested. He believes that if you know a person well enough you’d understand their choices, so he always gives the benefit of the doubt, and he loves to play ‘devil’s advocate’.
