The Telepathic Interface Device or TID for short, was a device created by Lieutenant Detron Trei as a holographic construct aboard the Holodeck of the USS Boudicca. The device takes Detron Trei's fairly weak Telepathy and using the power of the ship's computer and attuning specialized sensor beams allows him to fundamentally augment his telepathy, beyond his normal abilities. The device is attuned to Trei's unique brain patterns and was first used against the Borg Collective on Dovek II.

The device was designed to read and magnify Trei's inherent telepathic abilities and allow him to beam those energies out into space, with the purpose of making Telepathic contact other species. The TID was partially successful, when in 2414, it was used to make contact with Volus a member of the Varn species, who was a semi-independent member of the Borg Collective. It was once again used in 2414 to make contact with a creature dubbed, the Beast of Color II. Due to specific safety settings, the construct prevents either party from making any significant telepathic attacks, although telepathic suggestion and therefore psychosomatic symptoms are possible. It was because of this that Trei was not injured or killed by a telepathic assault sent by the creature during the contact.

The device records the specific telepathic frequencies that were used to make contact. Trei's contact jeopardized the Mission against the Borg and almost caused the destruction of the USS Boudicca and the USS Rosenante.

The Telepathic Interface Device was first seen in the Joint USS Boudicca and USS Rosenante mission Once More Into The Breach and again in the USS Boudicca mission Dead or Alive
