There are 14 Marine Divisions.
Rather than specific skill base, SFMC divisions are divided
predominantly on geographical lines. 3 are dedicated to
defense of the Federation Core.. Vulcan and Earth, one, the
Ambassadorial Guard has units stationed throughout the
galaxy as well as a strong garrison on Betazed. The other
ten are stationed on key ships, bases and garrison points
along both the Federation's borders, and around unexplored
areas encompassed by Federation growth.
The small number of Marines spread across such a vast
expanse, and a vast array of enemies, gave birth to the
Corps' nickname, "The Thin Green Line"

Divisional Naming
|
In order to keep organization in the
Marines, every level of organization has been 'named' and
designated, so that a specific marine can be found quickly
by keeping track of where a specific divisions forces happen
to be. The levels are as follows:
Division |
- |
Named for Location and in order of creation
1st Terran, 2nd Terran, 13th Spiral, etc |
|
Regiment |
- |
Numerical order in Division, by order of creation
1st Terran Division; 1st Regiment , 1st Terran
Division; 2nd Regiment , etc |
|
Battalion |
- |
Numerical order in Regiment, by order of creation
1st Regiment; 1st Battalion, 1st Regiment;
2nd Battalion, etc |
|
Company |
- |
Numerical Duty Station , by order of creation
1st Battalion; 1st Geneva Company, 1st Battalion,
2nd Geneva Company, etc |
|
Demi Company |
- |
Dashed number after company name, if Demi-Company
organization has been implemented.
1st Geneva-1,
1st Geneva-2, etc
Note: Demi Companies
are rarely used, but when they are, their designation
is just an add on to the full company designation |
|
Platoon |
- |
Greek letters by Company, by order of creation
1st Geneva; Alpha Platoon, 1st Geneva; Beta Platoon,
etc |
|
Squad |
- |
Numerical order in platoon, in order of creation,
each squad also has a formal squad name with their
designation
Alpha Platoon; 1st Squad, "Rogers
Rangers" , etc |
|
Marine |
- |
Every Marine is a Rifleman. |
Example: If I was a Marine, on Starbase Geneva, in
the squad '5 to midnight', my full Squad designation might
run like this:
14th Gamma Frontier Division; 2nd Regiment; 4th Battalion;
1st Geneva Company-2; Beta Platoon; 4th Squad, "5 to Midnight"
Naming Note: Although only Squads have 'official'
names, more often the not every level of Organization has
either an official or unofficial moniker. For Example, the
1st Geneva Company is known as "Pride and Passion",
and the Battalion that all Freedom Units are a part of is
known as "Black Lightning"

Sample Squad
Layouts |
The following layouts are based on the average
Marine Squads of 12 Marines, not including the Marine Officer
in charge. Different MCO's and MO's may organize their squads
differently, and there will be variation in rank and numbers,
but the above serve as examples of Marine Squad organization.
Generally speaking, a Squad Leader will be a Sergeant, with
a CPL below him. Squads can be kept whole, split into two
or more fireteams, and so forth
