Liam was born in Ireland in 2358 to two loving parents who encouraged his enthusiasm for medicine. He enrolled in Starfleet Academy at age 18 and graduated at age 22. He was assigned to a Starfleet hospital in New York on Earth, practicing experimental pediatric medicine. He met his wife Grace at the annual Interspecies Diversity Conference, during which various individuals from Starfleet were selected to present new research the organization was doing to better its understanding of the many species in the galaxy. Grace presented on wartime strategy differences between species, and Liam presented on interspecies pediatric biological similarities. Both stationed on Earth, both originally from Ireland, they were attracted to each other instantly and dated for several months before getting married in the Jonah Chapel in a small town in Ireland. They had their first son, Eian, after a touch-and-go pregnancy. Their second child, Glenn, was born without incident almost seven years later.
Grace was killed in the line of duty in 2411, leaving Liam widowed. The family's religious beliefs held them together, though Eian suffered from clinical depression for about six months after his mother's death. Liam remained the rock of the family, never confessing to his children just how dark his own thoughts became around that time.
When Eian was assimilated, Liam stepped in to help his son recover psychologically. Again, Liam found himself standing as the foundation of the family and leaning on his own faith to help him do so in the face of adversity.
Starfleet:
Starfleet Pediatric Hospital at New York: Medical Researcher, 2380-2394
USS Gadsden: Assistant Chief Medical Officer, 2394-2403
USS Britannic: Chief Medical Officer, 2403-2409
USS Kelman: First Officer, 2409-2414
USS Kelman: Commanding Officer, 2414-present
Missions:
1. Once More Into The Breach
In 2414, the Kelman was called upon to aid the USS Rosenante and the USS Boudicca in their investigation of Borg activity in the Dovek System. However things quickly precipitated into a conflict with the Borg leader, Volus opening a Temporal Vortex and jumping backwards in time. As a result the Kelman was too late to be instrumental in the battle and subsequent mission as it unfolded. Finding the two ships gone, Commander O'Neill left a relay beacon in place to maintain a vigil for the two vessels while conducting some scans of the system. When the Rosenante and the Boudicca reappeared a week after they departed, victorious, the Kelman was on-station to render aid. The USS Kelman acted as an escort to the two terribly wounded Starfleet vessels all the way to Starbase 989. When they were informed that the star base was unable to accommodate their repair requirements, the Kelman took on the civilians from both ships, who had been staying on the star base awaiting the return of the two damaged ships. The three vessels then continued on to Starbase Geneva where the Rosenante and the Boudicca were placed in repair slips. The Kelman remained at Starbase Geneva for a six month availability.
2. Personal Logs
While at Starbase Geneva, Liam attempted to help his son and his son's girlfriend Jessica Signos resume a normal life. However, Eian's struggle with his faith proved too difficult for him to handle, and he holed up in a holodeck and practiced hockey as part of a physical therapy regiment. Liam, a tolerant father, allowed this to go on for five days until he decided that this habit was unhealthy and that Eian needed help to make the right decisions. When he failed to get through to his son, he turned to Jessica. However, Liam found Jessica's quarters empty, ransacked, and showing evidence of a violent struggle. He immediately notified the base security and this launched an investigation into her disappearance.
