USS Defender
The USS Defender was a Federation Starship of the Sovereign Class. it was heavily modified and considered to be a Keltoi Class killer.
The ship served primarily during the federation Civil War and was part of the 2nd Fleet assigned to the flank of the line assigned near the Canopius System.
The vessel became the flagship for then Rear Admiral Errol Heatherby who was in command of the 2nd Fleet.
During the fall offensive of late 2407, when the USS Poseidon infiltrated the lines of the 2nd fleet and began destroying early warning outposts and disrupting supplies, the Defender under the direct command of Heatherby, began to hunt for the vessel.
They eventually encountered one another, and Heatherby proved to be a match for the Captain of the Poseidon, Saleke. Although it was initally thought that the ship was destroyed with all hands. Captain Saleke proved to have survived on the planetoid Alpha Serapsis 149.
The Defender was captured two weeks later by the USS Amistadt, a Luna Class starship.
Since the end of the war, the Defender has returned to active duty and is presently assigned to patrol duties along the Cardassian border.
